The Boston Celtics have just announced that Kyrie Irving will undergo a minor knee procedure tomorrow. The All-Star point guard has been sidelined since March 11 with ongoing soreness and the Celtics are hoping the surgery will “alleviate irritation in his left knee.” Irving suffered from a fractured patella in the same knee during the 2015 NBA Finals, which required the placement of screws.
Injuries continue to plague the second seeded Boston Celtics, who are looking much less like the possible Eastern Conference title contender they appeared to be at the start of the season. The team is still missing significant contributors in Marcus Smart, Jaylen Brown, Gordon Hayward & Daniel Theis, but Brown appears to be targeting a return in the coming week.
As for Irving, the details on the procedure are scarce right now, but more from the Celtics should be available after tomorrow. Updates will be added as the team releases new information.
