As the injury train continues to hit team after team in the NBA, the Dallas Mavericks received even more bad news for their season.
As reported by Shams Charania, Wesley Matthews has suffered a stress fracture in his right leg, and will likely miss the remainder of the season. Matthews underwent further testing as of today, and decided to rest and rehab the injury.
The Dallas Mavericks are in the midst of a tank battle for the top overall selection in the 2018 NBA Draft. The loss of the competitive Matthews should help them inch closer to the best odds for the top selection. This season, Mathews was playing 33.8 minutes per game, while averaging 12.7ppg, 3.1rpg, 2.7asp, with a shooting split of 44.1/38.1/82.0.
Matthews has not been able to stay healthy the past few seasons, and one would have to believe he will likely opt into his last year of his deal, as this would be his last big contract year before he looks to chase after rings.
